Henry B. Gonzalez Convention CenterThe success of San Antonio's robust convention industry resides in the city's crown jewel, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Built as part of the 1968 HemisFair, the first official Worlds Fair to be held in the southwest, the convention center has undergone major expansions and renovations in its lifetime. Today, the center hosts more than 450 conventions each year and 750,000 convention delegates.

Located along the banks of the River Walk in downtown San Antonio, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center is an extremely popular draw for national, regional and local conventions. In fact, readers of "Meetings South Magazine" voted the venue as the "Best Convention Center in the Industry" two years in a row.

The convention center boasts:
  • 1.3 million square feet
  • 59 meeting rooms
  • 3 ballrooms
  • 4 exhibit halls that can form a contiguous space of 440,000 sq. ft.
  • 7 registration areas
The complex also includes the 2,521-seat Lila Cockrell Theatre.

A recent achievement for the San Antonio convention industry was the construction in 2009 of a new 1,003-room convention center hotel and condominium tower, The Grand Hyatt San Antonio. The project was approved after nearly 20 years of attempts by city leaders to build a convention center hotel.
